A Glance from the Dark

My days are constantly the same: sleep, devour something or somebody, and sleep again. Or, should I say, they were the same. However, everything altered when I became aware of her. My dull and tedious life became full of colour. More precisely, green and red. I always fancied red, associated it with blood, and naturally, I adored blood.

Nonetheless, green was new to me. Especially her emerald green eyes were different. I had never seen something quite like them. Of course, her gaze was never directed at me, but I could still lavish in the depths of her eyes.

I discerned her from all the other mortals, when in the middle of bloodshed, I could sense curiosity from her. In the moonlight, the red like bloody nest on her head glowed, her eyes filled with immense terror, but a sparkle of inquisitiveness still existed in there.

That was when I became completely obsessed with her. I said to myself that it would be better if I left her alone, but I simply couldn’t. So, I came to the resolution that I would assist her when needed.

Everything started like two weeks ago. There was a big caravan in my village, and I went out to purchase goods. The caravan comes every year twice, so I had to get everything that I could need in time, until the caravan returned.

There are a lot of people these days in our village, so I have to be very careful with strangers and sellers, because they can steal me or my money. Usually, nothing strange happens. This time, everything was anything but normal.

My father told me to go out earlier in the morning, because he heard from the radio that we would have a big storm in the daytime, and everyone should have stayed at home until the storm ended.

The village looked normal, and there were only few people on the streets next to the sellers. After the most important objects were purchased by me, I noticed a strange shadow near a house. After I blinked twice, there wasn't anything there anymore.

I was terrified for a moment, and I decided to go back to safety. At home, the purchased objects were placed in their right places, and then I started to clean the house until my father came. While cleaning, I noticed something out of order. There was a shiny little item under my bed.

I bent over and I found a gold ring with a ruby crystal in it. It was strange, because I wasn't from a rich family. After my father got home, I asked him about the ring, and he told me that he didn't know about it. But things out of the ordinary still kept happening.
