Grandma’s special cup - Part 2

“Grandma, please, forgive me!” Lisa cried.

“What are you talking about, my dear child?” Grandma asked. The girls realized that because of the Alzheimer she couldn’t remember what had happened. However, on the way home, Lisa wondered about how she could compensate her grandmother, even though she couldn't remember what had happened. Perhaps Lisa could put the broken pieces together or search for something similar in a market. She was so desperate that she told her parents what happened, to ask for a solution.

“If you had listened to your sister, now we wouldn’t have to think about what to do. I wish I could help you Lisa, but I can’t think of any solution” the father claimed.

“I think I have an absolutely good idea. I have an acquaintance who is a sculptor and a ceramics artist, perhaps she could help you with teaching some techniques to make a new cup for grandma. Of course, it wouldn’t be the same as before, but it could be a core memory too, as the old cup,” the mother said.

“Thank you, mother, I think this would be a suitable solution” Lisa said. The next day the family visited the ceramics workshop. The mother’s acquaintance Jenny explained that first they had to paint the dish, and after that she would put the result in a big stove that operated at a high temperature. After hours of work, they finished the cup and waited for it to be burnt out. Lisa wrapped it in a simple wrapping paper and went to her grandmother.

“Good afternoon, Grandma, I know that you can’t remember what happened to your cup, but I wanted to admit that I had broken it, and I am really sorry. This week we made a new one for you with the family, here it is,” she explained and then gave the present. She opened it and started to cry.

“You know, Lisa, that cup was valuable to me, but this new one will probably hold a more important place in my heart. I'm crying because it's so beautiful, I'm sure I won't forget you,” she said.

Each family member was drawn on the cup with their names, so that the grandmother would remember her family for the rest of her life. For her it didn't matter if she forgot something, but she was afraid she wouldn't remember her family, that was why the cup became crucial in her life.
