What have we become?

I was born between 2 generations, it’s a blurry line,

Most of us had to get used to growing up online,

Some parents worked late, some worked from home,

We have to admit, it was easier to provide an iPad than attention.

Parents also need rest, they carry responsibility,

Life is hard, they needed to find time to pay the bills,

Still, I don’t think it was right

Leaving kids alone online day and night.

They say we’re spoiled, talk back much,

Yes, now we love screens more than toys we once touched,

But look a bit closer, you might as well see,

Not every child has tales of tyranny.

Yes, we do love to chatter, but it’s our moment of peace.

Rude for crossing our legs. Might as well do as we please!

Lazily resting after a day full of pressure,

“Secure a future, but choose fast,

Don’t fall, don’t break, do your best”.

We run on caffeine, for some it’s an aesthetic, a new mask,

A new cup in every photo, a trend, a new spell to cast,

For others, there is no choice, just find a way to stay awake,

Push through, survive till the next day.

Is fighting with our parents always our fault?

Yes, frequently we do things that worry them as a result,

But not every parent is gentle and full of respect,

Though it’s not new, some don’t want to accept.

Kids before us were silent, but we found a voice,

Adults saw this, called us weak, not ready for life,

And after they set our limits, drew the lines, most stayed inside.

We became what they described us, is this really only our fault?
