Captured by the current

1 min read

Captured by the current,

drowning, vision blurred,

endless attempts to reclaim freedom,

to break free from addiction.

Yet it feels like a drug,

a seductive escape from the fog.

Time flees imperceptibly,

precious minutes dissolve unnoticed.

Is it worth it—

to mistake numbness for peace with technology?

To silence our thoughts,

hoping they would leave us?

Yet they never vanish.

Our fears re-emerge, unchanged.

All our burdens, doubts, and problems

lie in wait, awaiting the right moments.

They are relentless adversaries,

rubbing salt into our injuries,

and yet we return to the very screens

that promise escape from what we feel.

And scarcely does anyone seem to notice

how dependence disguises itself as choice.

Campaigns, fake news, stories—

a ceaseless torrent drowning out our inner voices.

The current claims to carry us to freedom,

yet leaves us drifting further from the shore.

We reach for our phones to escape our problems,

only to find ourselves imprisoned evermore.
